Campus activist ready to become "the man"

With his involvement in Students for Democratic Society, Students for a Effective and Accountable Leadership and Students Against McDavis, sophomore Will Klatt is ready to stop protesting the authority and become part of it- by running for Ohio University’s student senate president.

The Political Science and History major is clearly one of the more outspoken, radical candidates for president. According to his Facebook page, Klatt is running because he is “tired of politics as usual on campus and the lack of a real commitment to represent students.”

Klatt is the only candidate who has never before been a part of the senate and is running on a platform based on three issues: improving shared governance, creating a new student center where the old Oasis stands and changing the current alcohol and marijuana policies.

Klatt advocates creating a “Student Popular Assembly” that will be entirely different from the current student senate and have veto power over discussions made by the administration.

In regards to the alcohol policy, Klatt stated “I oppose the administrative moves to increase the university punishments for students who responsibly consume alcohol or marijuana,” and he points out that the new policies have not decreased the levels of consumption of these substances.

Creating a committee of students and faculty members called “Alcohol and Marijuana in Community Life” that would redo the current policies is Klatt’s proposed solution.

Klatt also believes that the Oasis should be renovated and revamped into a community center that would be completely run by students and have a variety of different functions.

During a recent debate between the four candidates, Klatt was the only one to state that he will be voting no confidence in the current McDavis administration. He has clearly demonstrated his dislike of the way the university is being run and has taken a very harsh stance on President McDavis in particular.

Will Klatt was also endorsed by The Post
