Dad’s Weekend can be a time of family bonding, an eye opening experience for fathers and kids alike. It can also turn into a beer-chugging, shot shooting, swashbuckling good time for college students and their middle-aged fathers.

But just what do students do with their overly-excited dads who are attempting to recapture their youth? The university offers tons of wholesome fun for the family set.

Athletics:

For the retired-jock-daddy, check out these campus recreation events:

The hippie-esque, organic dad will love what Athens’ art scene has to offer:

Free admission - open to public

The Kennedy Museum of Art - Lin Hall Hours:

Local music:

The dad who likes to rock out when mom's not around and unleash his Zeppelin head-banging days will be at home amongst some of Athens’ local bands:

The Flukes and The Makebelieves – Saturday, Jan. 26 – The Union – 10 p.m.

Papadosio – Saturday, Jan. 26 – Blue Gator - TBA

Lollipop Factory – Friday, Jan. 25 – Jackie O’s – 10 p.m.

Poohbah – Saturday, Jan. 26 – Jackie O’s – 10 p.m.

These activities are sure to induce some serious family fun. However, the bar scene is definitely the place where the "in-crowd" hangs out on Dad’s Weekend. If the dads are man enough to handle the sprawling lines and wall-to-wall drunk college students at the bars, the madness inside is truly unforgettable.

But be warned, the dads will try and out-drink each other, and they may be reduced to their college-age selves. They could attempt to channel Tom Cruise (or some other over-the-hill heart-throb from yesteryear), and they may attempt to put the moves on unassuming college boys and girls.

What about the students whose dads can't come? There are two widely accepted options, either cling onto a dad when he starts his Cruise channeling (there are a lot of DILFS out there), or adopt-a-family for the day. Preferably one that you know, say a roommate? Tag along with them and the weekend will be interesting and memorable to say the least.

Every student is sure to come out of Dad's Weekend, hopefully with a dad who has not been to jail or to the hospital. And hey, this weekend is a great time to pick up embarrassing anecdotes that are sure to be repeated at family gatherings, at least until next year’s Dad's Weekend.
