The idea started in April with an e-mail that was sent to the entire senior class of 2008, asking class members to nominate the top five most recognizable seniors in their class. From those names, the top 20 names were chosen and the Facebook event, “Most Recognizable Seniors” was created, allowing any OU student to vote for the top three most-known seniors.
Out of those 20 senior nominees, one will become OU’s Most Recognizable Senior.
“It’s an honor to be nominated,” said senior Kimberly Kanner, an OU video production major. “People know you and recognize all you’ve done at OU to make a big difference in people’s lives here.”
A well-known student in the College of Communications, Kanner has been involved in many school organizations and is currently on Senior Class Council.
“I was shocked when I first got the e-mail saying I had been nominated,” Kanner said. “I didn’t realize how serious the idea was until the Facebook group was made and people started voting.”
OU’s Most Recognizable Senior will be announced at the “Senior Farewell” event at the end of the year on College Green. It is rumored that the winner will have his or her own spread in the school yearbook.
“I think this is something that makes younger students want to be more active in the community," Janner said. "I hope they look at this group and think, ‘That’s such a cool honor. That’s something I really want to do too.’”
Anyone can vote either by writing his or her top three choices as a wall post on the “Most Recognizable Seniors” Facebook event wall or by clicking the link on the page and voting anonymously. Voting ends May 25.
“Even if I don’t win, I think it’s cool that out of my whole class, I’m considered one of the top 20 most recognized,” Kanner said.
