Love, loss and girl power: It's winter in Hollywood

We may be on break from OU, but celebrities will never take a break from creating headlines. While we are lounging on our couches, working hard at internships and holiday shopping at our local malls, our favorite stars are walking the streets of Hollywood, partying in all the best clubs and performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (the Spice Girls were so cute, no?).
I’d like to take a minute just to catch up on the latest L.A. gossip and make sure we don’t forget what’s happening in Tinseltown. It seems as if the winter weather is breeding ground for new relationships in Hollywood. Jessica Simpson and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Roma are among the latest celebrities to publicly announce their relationship. Apparently, Roma spent Thanksgiving with the entire Simpson clan, including Grandma and Grandpa. It's good for Jessica Simpson that she is confident enough to announce her new partner and introduce him to her family, especially after all the drama around her relationship with former beau John Mayer. Jess is hot, Tony Roma is hot, I wonder if she’ll wear his helmet to the Kentucky Derby.
Two other stars who have been spotted spending time together over the holidays are Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal. Witherspoon was recently named Hollywood’s highest paid female movie star (apparently making up to $20 million per film). Personally, I would pay more to see Jake Gyllenhaal, especially in his scantily clad “Santa suit” in Jarhead, but as a 20-year-old female college student, I am probably quite biased.
But back to the woman who does get to see Gyllenhaal at his best, Reese and Jake have been seen all over out on the town. First appearing in public together on Halloween, the couple has not stopped spending time together over the holidays. The two are reported to be in San Francisco, currently enjoying a relaxing break from the stress of Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, love has not blossomed the same for our favorite stumbling starlet Lindsay Lohan. Lohan has broken up with her rehab-found boyfriend, Riley Giles. Word is that Giles couldn’t put the bottle down, and Linds is actually serious about getting sober. While in New York City celebrating Thanksgiving, Giles reportedly hit the NYC clubs hard while Lohan was more interested in catching up with her family. Good for Lindsay, if it’s true she really wants to get clean.
The rumors about a one-night stand with Heath Ledger also contributed to the breakup, but they don’t really help with Lindsay's whole new “good girl” image. Oh, well. At least she hasn’t passed out in anyone’s front seat or flashed her goodies to all of America lately. Baby steps.
Totally not having to do with Hollywood love (we could link David Beckham in here somewhere but why not just celebrate girl power), the Spice Girls are back! I think I want tickets to their new tour. The British babes re-debuted themselves to America on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which aired last Tuesday. They may have lip-synched, and they did perform a song from, like, 1998, but those girls were looking good. Unfortunately, the girls performed two songs, but only one made the cut to air. Even Seal got more stage time. The other song that didn’t air was their latest single, “Headlines,” a catchy, typical Spice Girls tune. Also performing at the VS Fashion Show was Seal, with special guest singer, Heidi Klum.
So winter is bringing love, heartache and a British flare into the lives of our favorite celebrities. Maybe we should be thankful we have six weeks to relax, work or do whatever we please because we will have a lot to catch up on when school begins again in January. Bring on New Year’s -- you know someone will relapse!
