Two slices of white bread (no crust), sandwiched together with a gooey mess of peanut butter and jelly, a bag of potato chips and a tall glass of milk is a kindergartner's dream now available in Athens.

Adjacent to the Athena Theatre on Court Street is where this dream can become a reality at recently opened The Chippery and PB & J. Students can escape the monotony of burritos and pizza and settle down with their favorite childhood snack.

At the The Chippery, it's easy to become overwhelmed with the menu choices for creating a simple, personal PB & J sandwich. As the menu states, "It's easy as A, B, C... D."

First you choose the type of peanut butter you want: creamy or chunky; then the kind of bread: white, wheat, eight grain, potato or a cinnamon swirl or plain bagel. Next, choose among grape, strawberry or raspberry jelly. Finally, if you're daring enough, choose extra toppings, which range from marshmallow fluff to M&Ms.

You can get the PB & J classic, a PB & J sandwich with the choice of any additional topping for only $1.99, with $0.75 for each additional topping. A meal can also be made out of a trip to the The Chippery by selecting a bag of many assorted flavors and sizes of chips. All are natural and contain no cholesterol or preservatives.

The interior of the store is extremely bright and inviting, reflected in its employees, who can always tell by the wide-eyed stares and looks of confusion when to give a guided tour for a customer"s first PB & J sandwich. Always helpful and never frustrated when a customer takes too long making the important decision of "to add the marshmallow or not," the employees of The Chippery reflect some of the best customer service in Athens.

With an employee's gentle persuasion, the warm atmosphere and that genuinely "full" feeling you can only get from a stick-to-your-bones kind of meal, the The Chippery and PB & J is the closest thing to home here in Athens.
