Bewitching drinks to spook up Halloween night

Halloween in Athens -- that magical time of year when students shroud themselves in mystery, adopting a different persona for the night. The streets flood with over-enthused impersonators as the parties runneth over with intoxicating liquids.

However, beer just does not pair well with the crazy costumes that are sure to be out Halloween weekend. Try coordinating the festive outfits with these colorful and tasty cocktails. Speakeasy shows each little gremlin how to make the perfect beverages to enhance this holiday.

Potent Punches:

Spooky Juice:

In the cauldron:

1 oz. vodka, 2 dashes Blue Curacao liquor, 1 dash grenadine, orange juice.

Brewing instructions:

Mix all ingredients together in a large punch bowl with ice, serve.

Great Pumpkin Punch

In the cauldron:

1 pumpkin, 1 part apple cider, 2 parts Ginger Ale, 1 part rum.

Brewing instructions:

Mix all ingredients together and serve in hollowed out pumpkin.

Blood Punch

In the cauldron:

1 handle of vodka or white rum, 2 2-liter bottles of 7-Up or Sprite, red food coloring, mini marshmallows.

Brewing instructions:

Chill vodka and Sprite over night, then combine in a large punch bowl. Add a few drops of red food coloring until the punch is blood red. Throw some marshmallows on top and serve.

 

Mixed Monsters:

Jägermonster

In the cauldron:

1 oz. Jägermeister, 1 oz. grenadine, orange juice.

Brewing instructions:

Combine Jäger and grenadine in a glass, add orange juice to fill.

Devil’s Advocate

In the cauldron:

1 oz. Bacardi Limon, 1 oz. triple sec, 3/4 oz. sour mix, 1 tbsp. grenadine, 4 oz. cranberry juice.

Brewing instructions:

Mix together all ingredients, serve.

Vampire’s Kiss

In the cauldron:

2 oz. vodka, 1/2 oz. dry gin, 1 tbsp. tequila, 1 pinch salt, 2 oz. tomato juice.

Brewing instructions:

Shake well with ice, pour into glass and enjoy.

Spookalicious Shots:

Pumpkin Pie

In the cauldron:

1/2 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream, 1/2 oz. Kahlúa, 1/4 oz. Bacardi 151, cinnamon.

Brewing instructions:

Add Bailey's and Kahlúa in shaker and shake. Pour into shot glasses and add Bacardi, sprinkle top with cinnamon. Light on fire and pound!

Little Devil

In the cauldron:

3/4 oz. rum, 3/4 oz. gin, 2 tsp. triple sec, 2 tsp. lemon juice, maraschino cherry.

Brewing instructions

Combine all ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and pour into large shot glass, shoot.

Vampire

In the cauldron:

1 oz. Chambord raspberry liquor, 1 oz. vodka, 1 oz. cranberry Juice

Brewing instructions:

Mix all ingredients together in a shaker and pour as shots.

Students can get as sophisticated or as cheap with the brands of liquor they choose to use in these recipes. As always, remember to be safe when consuming each, as no one wants to see a hung-over warlock.
